RMS Carinthia - one of the "600 footers"
Between 1954 and 1957, Cunard took delivery of 4 sister ships from John Brown & Co, Clydebank, for the Canadian liner service. The Carinthia was delivered in 1956 and was sold in 1968 to the Italian Sitmar Line, renamed Fairland, converted for cruising in 1970 and renamed again to Fair Princess. In 2000, she became a gambling ship n the Far East as the China Sea Discovery and was sold, like her sisterships, to Indian breakers, arriving at Alang in November 2005, where she was dismantled on the beach. Thus, the four sisters began their careers at the same shipyard and ended at the same breakers beach. |
