Kathleen Jeanne Louise HALL She was born in Liverpool, as her father Herbert was in the Merchant Navy and her mother Simonne was living there. She spent some of her childhood in Holland and Belgium (Simonne was Belgian) before her father got a job as port pilot at Vizagapatam, India (on the Bay of Bengal). She was sent to St Michael's boarding school (run by the Clewer sisters of Windsor) in Darjeeling in the foothills of the Himalayas, travelling alone for 2 or 3 days by train, attending from 1936 to 1939. In 1940, she attended Nazareth Convent (boarding) in Ootacamund until 1943 After school she joined the Womens Royal Indian Navy, spending some time in Delhi and when she returned to England joined the Womens Royal Navy. She met Lt. John CULBERTSON, an RN Fleet Air Arm pilot and married him on 16-Dec-1950 at Colchester, Essex. They had 2 children Geoffrey on 05-Dec-1951 and Jolyon on 05-Mar-1954. Very shortly after Geoffrey was born John left the UK for the Korean war.

Kathleen married John Murray CULBERTSON, son of Robert Bryan CULBERTSON and Violet Victoria BOLINGBROKE, on 16 Dec 1950 in St Mary at the Wall, Colchester, Essex. (John Murray CULBERTSON was born on 13 Jun 1922 in Wanstead, Essex,1 died on 6 Mar 2000 in Southampton General Hospital, Tremona Road and was buried in All Saints, High street, Headley, Hampshire.) |
